Catching Up With Alessandra Simmons Rolffs

Where can we read some of your recent work?

You can read some of my recent writing in “What Was Created Still Exists” Rewilding: Poems for the Environment. Flexible Press. Edited by Crystal S. Gibbins. My poem, “New Mother Poem” was published in Smartish Pace (second place in the Beulah Rose Prize). I recently also had a little feature in the local newspaper: https://doorcountypulse.com/peninsula-poetry-alessandra-simmons/

What are you reading right now?

I just finished reading Claudia Rankine’s Just Us. Her profound insight into the subtlety of racism in the U.S. is powerful and provocative. Reading the book felt like a very intimate experience, of being welcomed into Rankine’s process as she experiences the pressures of racism.

What’s next for you?

I just joined the board of Write On, Door County, a writer’s residency program in Door County. I’m excited to help the organization grow in its programs and offerings.
