Song (iii)

I no longer have the heart to describe any of it. The cypress trees have been harrowed by the roadside. I am driving through a forest of cypress trees as though in order to reconnoiter with a version of myself vanished only yesterday.How strange and inaccurate the phrase: the sunlight was deepening around me. As if light could deepen. As if intensity does not already harry the edge of the iris.
